There's been a lot of talk recently about the role of women in the Catholic church. All I'm going to say (which I have said to some extent before here and here) is that the way that parents teach their children about any religion is really important.
Among other things, I teach Beezus and Ramona that they matter to God, that Jesus wants them to be kind, they are special to our priest and our deacon. I point out our (female) neighbor who is an Extraordinary Minister (is that what we're supposed to call Eucharistic Ministers now ?) and I point out to them the girls who are altar servers.
They are clearly listening.
About a month ago we were at Michael's and saw some little wooden crosses, about 4-5 inches high. They totally flipped out they were so excited. I bought one for each of them ($ . 49 ea.) and they were thrilled. Now they parade around the house holding them up high and demanding that I sing "Jesus Christ is Risen Today." The baby doll changing table serves as the altar, and they even bow as they approach it !
I don't know what the future holds for our Church. I know that we have a lot of prayer and a lot of work ahead of us. But I also know that for now, I am teaching my children to love our Church . . . and they do. 49 cent wooden crosses and all !!!

This reminds me of my neice, Emily, who has an altar on my sister's front lawn that she will regularly go and pray to.
You should set up a may altar for them. I used to enjoy doing that every year as a kid.
