Old friends

There is nothing in the world like old friends. They are wonderful.

Especially old friends who I describe as "it's like we were siblings with emotionally manipulative parents and lived to tell the tale about it." (In reality, we were former colleagues).

Especially when you know this old friend well enough to know that he's about to pray before your lunch at Oodles of Noodles and you say to him, "Do you wanna pray?" Except that he thinks you said "Do you want bread?" so he says no and then as he starts to bow his head you say "Well, can't we pray together?" and he says "Yes, I thought you were talking about bread" and then says "you mean like hold hands?" and you say, "No, that's too much. We're at Oodles of Noodles." Then you both laugh and have to calm down before praying. Then he prays over your lunch and gives thanks for your time together and your heart swells with gratitude that God has placed this awesome person in your life. And then you mentally kick yourself for only getting in touch with him every 6 months or so.

After your lunch, you feel hopeful about your eventual return to your former career. It will be possible. It will happen one day.

All friends are wonderful. All friends fill a special place in your life. I'm glad I have this friend in mine.
