Busy Mornings

On any given morning, Esther wakes up about an hour before Ruthie. I'm running in and out of the house, bringing things in from the car, taking lunches, water, and post school snacks out of house to leave in the car, etc.

Esther sometimes tags along behind me, but truth be told, I don't really "supervise" her because she would never go in the street or wander away. I mean, I generally know if she is inside or outside, but I don't watch her like a hawk.

On this day, I must have come back into the house quickly and left her outside on the porch. Upon taking three steps into the house, I realized she wasn't with me and turned back around to see where she was. I burst out laughing (and grabbed the nearby camera) to take a picture of this look on her face and her posture.

The caption reads exactly what she said to me.

"Mommy, you can't go inside the house and leave a little child outside !"

Didn't you know this already??!! Better start listening to Esther - she knows her stuff!

Very different from my house where Helen routinely shouts "I'm goin' to go play on the [insert location] Mommy" and then promptly lets herself out the door to play on the front porch - or the deck - or the backyard - or the neighbor's house.
