A moment

Sitting across from my daughter
a moment of "being in the moment" in the busy coffee shop.
We share a special treat,
she drinks milk and offers to stir my coffee.
She chatters, I gaze at her, willing myself to memorize every detail of this precious time,
to remember every word she says, every gesture she makes.
With her hair pulled aside with a pink sparkly hairclip
I can see her eyes clearly
I try to stare deeper and am relieved not to see a glimpse of the teenager or woman she will become.

But I do see parts of the 6 or 7 year old she will be.

My breath catches
my eyes fill
my heart flutters.

Too fast, too fast, this is all too fast.

It does go by far too quickly. Enjoy.
